According to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data released by Clarivate Analytics on March 12, the Engineering discipline of Hunan Institute of Technology entered the top 1% of ESI globally for the first time. This signifies that the university's Engineering discipline has entered the ranks of high-level international disciplines, achieving a historic breakthrough in the development history of its discipline construction.

As a metrics-based analytical database established based on academic journal literature records from over 12,000 global journals indexed in Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI), ESI is currently a widely used evaluation metric tool worldwide to assess the academic performance and influence of universities and research institutions. The latest data reveals that a total of 2,982 institutions worldwide entered the Engineering discipline ranking, with HNIT ranking 2,945th. The university has published a total of 332 SCIE/SSCI papers in the field of Engineering, with total citations reaching 3,953, and an average citation per paper of 11.91, including 2 highly cited papers. This achievement is the result of the university's long-term commitment to connotation-driven development, optimization of institutional layout, and deepening of interdisciplinary integration, highlighting the academic competitiveness and influence of the university in the field of Engineering.

Entering the top 1% of ESI globally for the first time serves as both a milestone and a new starting line. Standing at this new historical juncture, the university will give full play to the leading and demonstration role of the Engineering discipline and deeply integrate it into the "15th Five-Year" institutional career development plan currently being formulated.
